// Competitive Comparison
OSSeva vs. Instaclustr
Instaclustr, part of NetApp, runs Kafka, Cassandra, PostgreSQL, OpenSearch and ClickHouse as a managed platform and sells per-node support for clusters you run yourself, on the versions its lifecycle page lists. OSSeva patches the older versions that list has retired, such as PostgreSQL 11 to 14, Kafka 2.8 to 3.8 and ZooKeeper 3.4 to 3.7.
Where OSSeva is stronger
- ✓Patched builds of PostgreSQL 11 to 14, which Instaclustr lists as Retired, along with 15
- ✓Patched Kafka 2.8 to 3.8 and ZooKeeper 3.4 to 3.7, which Instaclustr lists as Retired
- ✓OSSeva ships the fixes; Instaclustr's support subscriptions leave patch and vulnerability management to you
- ✓Redis 6.2 to 7.2 and Valkey 7.2 and 8.x, plus RabbitMQ and MongoDB, which Instaclustr's support subscriptions do not list
Where Instaclustr is stronger
- →A fully managed platform on AWS, Azure, Google Cloud or on premises, in your cloud account or Instaclustr's
- →Apache Cassandra 4.0, 4.1 and 5.0 and Cadence, which OSSeva does not cover
- →Current versions first: Kafka 4.3, PostgreSQL 18, OpenSearch 3.6 and ClickHouse 26.3 LTS on the platform
- →24x7 support with a response under 20 minutes and service credits for missed responses

Why teams choose OSSeva
Fixes for the versions Instaclustr has retired
Instaclustr's lifecycle page lists PostgreSQL 15 and below, Kafka 3.8 and below and ZooKeeper 3.7 and below as Retired, and its support subscriptions cover only the versions that page lists as supported, unless agreed otherwise. A cluster that cannot move this quarter still needs security fixes. OSSeva ships signed, patched builds of PostgreSQL 11 to 14, Kafka 2.8 to 3.8 and ZooKeeper 3.4 to 3.7 while the upgrade is planned.
Patches you do not have to build
Instaclustr's per-node support subscriptions for Kafka and PostgreSQL make the customer responsible for patch and vulnerability management, and exclude direct access to your environment. OSSeva ships the patched packages and images, publishes vulnerability notifications, and on the Operate tier its engineers apply them and run the clusters 24/7 on your infrastructure.
Per cluster, not per node
Instaclustr prices its managed platform and its support subscriptions per node, and asks customers to report nodes as they are added. OSSeva prices Kafka per cluster, ZooKeeper per ensemble and PostgreSQL per cluster, so adding brokers or replicas does not change the support bill.
Why teams choose Instaclustr
A full managed platform
Instaclustr provisions and runs Kafka, Kafka Connect, Cassandra, PostgreSQL, OpenSearch, ClickHouse and Cadence on AWS, Azure, Google Cloud or on premises, either in your own cloud account or in Instaclustr's. If you want to stop running the infrastructure entirely, that is a different product from OSSeva's, which supports and operates what you already run.
Cassandra and current releases
Instaclustr has deep Apache Cassandra experience and lists Cassandra 4.0, 4.1 and 5.0 as generally available. It tracks new releases quickly: Kafka 4.3, PostgreSQL 18, OpenSearch 3.6 and ClickHouse 26.3 LTS are generally available on its platform. OSSeva does not support Cassandra or Cadence.
Support with service credits
Instaclustr's support subscriptions offer 24x7 availability and a response under 20 minutes, with service credits when that response time is missed. The Kafka subscription includes ZooKeeper at no additional charge when it runs alongside a supported Kafka cluster, plus Kafka Connect, MirrorMaker 2 and Karapace.
Which is right for your situation?
Choose OSSeva when…
Your Kafka, ZooKeeper or PostgreSQL runs a version Instaclustr has retired, you need patched builds rather than advice, or you also run RabbitMQ, MongoDB, Redis or Valkey and want one contract priced per cluster.

You want a fully managed platform, you run Cassandra or Cadence, or your clusters are on current versions and you want per-node support with a response-time service credit.
Instaclustr runs and supports Kafka, Cassandra, PostgreSQL, OpenSearch, ClickHouse and Cadence on current versions. OSSeva patches older Kafka, ZooKeeper, PostgreSQL, Redis and Elasticsearch releases, and also covers RabbitMQ, MongoDB and Valkey.
Frequently asked questions
Which versions does Instaclustr support?
Its lifecycle status page lists, among others, PostgreSQL 17 and 18 as generally available and 16.15 as Closed, moving to Retired in December 2026; Kafka 3.9.2 and 4.x as generally available, with 3.8 and below Retired; ZooKeeper 3.8.4 as Closed, moving to Retired in late 2027; and OpenSearch 2.19 and 3.x as generally available. Its support subscriptions cover the versions in the supported states on that page, or as mutually agreed. Check the page for current states.
What happens when a version reaches End of Life at Instaclustr?
Under Instaclustr's lifecycle policy, End of Life and Retired versions are not covered by production SLAs and issues on them are not supported, although Instaclustr will help you upgrade. It commits to supporting existing deployments on older versions for at least six months beyond the open source project's support date, and gives at least six months' notice, typically twelve, before a major version reaches End of Life.
Does Instaclustr patch end-of-life Kafka, ZooKeeper or PostgreSQL?
Its pages do not list patched builds for versions it has retired, and its support subscriptions make the customer responsible for patch and vulnerability management on self-managed clusters. OSSeva ships patched Kafka 2.8 to 3.9, ZooKeeper 3.4 to 3.7 and PostgreSQL 11 to 14.
Does Instaclustr still offer Redis and Valkey?
Its lifecycle page lists Redis 7.2.11 and Valkey 8.1.4 as Closed and older versions as Retired, and its subscription specifications list no support subscription for Redis or Valkey. OSSeva patches Redis 6.2, 7.0 and 7.2 and supports Valkey 7.2 and 8.x.
Does OSSeva support Cassandra?
No. For Apache Cassandra, Instaclustr's managed platform or its Cassandra support subscription is the stronger option.
How does pricing compare?
We do not publish or estimate other vendors' prices. Instaclustr prices its managed platform and its support subscriptions per node. OSSeva prices per cluster, or per ensemble for ZooKeeper. Ask both for a quote against the same list of clusters and versions.
