// Database support cost calculator
What does your database support really cost each year?
Most teams know the invoice total for each support contract. Fewer know the full bill: several contracts on different renewal dates, a commercial licence they would like to leave, and engineers who spend part of every week on patches and vendor tickets.
This calculator adds those costs up from your own numbers. Type in what you pay and what your team spends its time on, and it shows how much of that spend one vendor could address. We do not put any vendor's prices into it, ours included. If you already have an OSSeva quote, enter it to see the net difference over one year and three.
Your estimate
Updates as you type. Built only from your inputs.
Enter at least one cost to see your current spend and how much of it is addressable.
These are estimates from your own inputs. This is not a quote, and it does not include the cost of a migration project.
How this is calculated
- Support contracts
- The sum of the annual costs you entered. All of it counts as addressable, because the aim is to replace those contracts with one.
- Commercial licences
- Your annual licence and support cost. The addressable part is that cost multiplied by the share of workloads you think could move.
- Team time
- Number of people, times the fully loaded cost per person, times the share of time spent on patching, upgrades and vendor tickets. The addressable part is that figure multiplied by the share you think one vendor could take on.
- Renewals
- Hours per renewal cycle times the hourly cost, once for each support contract and once for the licence. When several support contracts become one, every cycle but one is removed. The licence renewal stays, since a partial move still leaves that contract in place.
- Net difference
- Addressable spend minus your OSSeva quote. The three-year view is that number times three, with your inputs held constant. It leaves out price changes, headcount changes and the one-off cost of moving a workload.
Estimates from your own inputs. Not a quote. Nothing you type is sent anywhere; the arithmetic runs in your browser.
How database support is usually priced
Support vendors count different things. Some charge by compute, such as cores or vCPUs. Others charge per node, per server or per subscription tier, and some quote every deal separately. The unit matters more than the first-year price. A per-core or per-node contract grows each time you add replicas or move to bigger machines, even when nothing about the support changes.
OSSeva is priced per cluster, so adding capacity to a cluster does not change the support bill. Book a discovery call for a quote, then put it in the calculator next to what you pay today.
Frequently asked questions
What goes into database support cost?
More than the support invoices. A full view adds the support contracts for each engine, any commercial database licence and its support fee, the engineering time spent applying patches, running upgrades and chasing vendor tickets, and the hours each renewal takes across procurement, legal and security review. The calculator above totals all four from your own figures.
How is PostgreSQL enterprise support priced?
It depends on the vendor, and each one states its unit on its own site. EDB's documentation for its cloud service says database pricing is based on the number of vCPUs provisioned, metered by the hour. Instaclustr sells PostgreSQL support as a per-node subscription. OSSeva prices PostgreSQL per cluster. We do not repeat other vendors' prices; ask each for a quote against the same list of clusters and versions, then compare them in the calculator.
How much does Redis Enterprise cost?
Redis publishes its own pricing page. It lists Redis Cloud plans priced by the hour, and says multi-cloud, hybrid and on-premises deployments are available with an annual plan through its sales team. We do not restate those prices here. If you run Redis or Valkey yourself, enter your current contract in the calculator and compare it with an OSSeva quote, which is priced per cluster.
How is Percona support priced?
Percona's support page describes Advanced and Premium tiers and does not list prices, so the figure comes from a quote. Once you have it, enter it as one of your support contracts above. Percona is a strong choice if you want MySQL-centred expertise from a team that also builds its own MySQL distribution.
Why does the calculator not include vendor prices?
Published prices go out of date, discounts vary widely, and a number on our page would read as a quote it is not. Your invoices are the only figures that describe your estate, so every money value is yours to enter. The percentage sliders start at modest values and are labelled as your estimate so you can set them to match your team.
What does OSSeva cost?
OSSeva is priced per cluster across the Patch, Assure and Operate tiers, not per core, per node or per GB. Book a discovery call for a quote. Bring your contract list and renewal dates, and we will price the same coverage line by line.
