Running an end-of-life .NET version?
OSSeva keeps end-of-life .NET patched with signed builds and backported CVE fixes, documents it for your auditor, and can run it for you, so the upgrade happens on your schedule rather than the project’s.
.NET extended support.NET end of life: common questions
Is .NET 8 end of life?
Microsoft's end-of-support date for .NET 8 is 10 November 2026, the Patch Tuesday closest to the end of its three-year LTS window. .NET 9, an STS release, ends the same day. After that date Microsoft ships no security patches for either, and its policy recommends moving to a newer, supported .NET version.
What is the difference between .NET LTS and STS?
Only the length of support. Microsoft says the quality of all releases is the same. LTS releases, the even-numbered ones, get free support and patches for three years, and STS releases, the odd-numbered ones, get two. Either way you must run the latest patch to stay supported, and the last six months are a maintenance period.
Is .NET 6 end of life?
Yes. .NET 6 was an LTS release from November 2021, and Microsoft ended its support on 12 November 2024, the Patch Tuesday after its three-year window closed. 6.0.36 was the final patch. Microsoft ships no security fixes for .NET 6 now, so applications on it need an upgrade or third-party support.
When did .NET Core 3.1 reach end of life?
On 13 December 2022. .NET Core 3.1 was an LTS release from December 2019, and 3.1.32, published on its final day of support, was the last patch. Microsoft has shipped no fixes for it since, so any service still on .NET Core 3.1 has gone several years without upstream security updates.
What is the latest .NET version?
10.0.12, released 8 Sept 2026, on the 10 (LTS) line. Other supported lines: 9 and 8.
When is the next .NET end of life?
.NET 9 reaches the end of support status on 10 Nov 2026. After that date the project stops shipping security fixes for 9, and CVEs disclosed later stay unpatched upstream.
Which .NET versions are still supported?
10 (until 14 Nov 2028), 9 (until 10 Nov 2026) and 8 (until 10 Nov 2026). Every other line has reached end of life, per the dates in the table above.
Can I get security patches for an end-of-life .NET version?
Yes. OSSeva provides .NET extended support after upstream support ends, on the Patch, Assure and Operate tiers. See .NET extended support for the versions covered.
