ActiveMQ Classic end of life: common questions

Which ActiveMQ Classic versions are supported?

Only the series the ActiveMQ download page marks Active. The project defines Active as actively supported and recommended for production, with regular community updates, security patches and bug fixes, and Inactive as end of life with no updates. The table above shows the status of each Classic series and its latest release.

Is ActiveMQ 5.18 end of life?

Yes. The ActiveMQ download page lists the 5.18.x series as Inactive, which the project defines as end of life with no further updates, and 5.18.7 from March 2025 was its last release. The 5.x line continued in 5.19.x, so moving to 5.19 is the smallest upgrade from 5.18.

Do Inactive ActiveMQ versions get security fixes?

No. The ActiveMQ project says Inactive versions do not receive updates, are not recommended for new deployments, and users are encouraged to upgrade to an Active version. A CVE disclosed after a series goes Inactive is fixed only in the Active series, so older brokers stay exposed unless they upgrade or get third-party patches.

What is the latest ActiveMQ Classic version?

6.3.2, released 29 Aug 2026, on the 6.3 line. Other supported lines: 5.19.

Which ActiveMQ Classic versions are still supported?

6.3 and 5.19. Every other line has reached end of life, per the dates in the table above.

Can I get security patches for an end-of-life ActiveMQ Classic version?

Yes. OSSeva ships signed builds with backported CVE fixes for ActiveMQ Classic 5.18, 5.17, 5.16 and 5.15 after upstream support ends, on the Patch, Assure and Operate tiers, so you can stay on the version you run while you plan the upgrade.
