Running an end-of-life Apache Hadoop version?

OSSeva keeps end-of-life Apache Hadoop patched with signed builds and backported CVE fixes, documents it for your auditor, and can run it for you, so the upgrade happens on your schedule rather than the project’s.

Apache Hadoop end of life: common questions

How does Hadoop decide a release line is end of life?

By volunteer interest rather than a calendar. The Hadoop EOL process says a line is declared end of life if no volunteer will do a maintenance release in the short to mid term, roughly three months to a year and a half. Proposals to end more branches start as discussion threads on the developer mailing lists.

Is Hadoop 2 end of life?

Mostly. The Hadoop wiki lists 2.0 through 2.9 as end of life, while 2.10 still appears among the active release lines. The most recent 2.10 release, 2.10.2, came out in May 2022, so check the table above and the Hadoop release notes before counting on further 2.x fixes.

Can an end-of-life Hadoop line still get security fixes?

Occasionally. The Hadoop EOL process says the community can still choose to make a security-only release after a line is declared end of life, but nothing obliges it to. Anyone running an end-of-life Hadoop line should treat upstream patches as unlikely and plan an upgrade to an active line or other support.

What is the latest Apache Hadoop version?

3.5.0, released 1 Apr 2026, on the 3.5 line. Other supported lines: 3.4, 3.3 and 2.10.

Which Apache Hadoop versions are still supported?

3.5, 3.4, 3.3 and 2.10. Every other line has reached end of life, per the dates in the table above.

Can I get security patches for an end-of-life Apache Hadoop version?

Yes. OSSeva ships signed builds with backported CVE fixes for Apache Hadoop 3.2, 3.1, 2.9 and 2.8 after upstream support ends, on the Patch, Assure and Operate tiers, so you can stay on the version you run while you plan the upgrade.
