Leaving Tanzu GemFire without leaving the data grid
Tanzu GemFire licensing changed the calculus. Apache Geode is the open-source path, but the data grid holds live state that can't be migrated on a licensing deadline.
Challenge
GemFire typically holds low-latency state for systems that can't tolerate a cold start. A move to Geode is not just a dependency swap -- it is a migration of live grid state, with the regions, listeners and serialization behaviour that were built around the commercial distribution.
Environment
Tanzu GemFire holding production data-grid state, facing a licensing change or renewal decision.
Approach
OSSeva supports the GemFire/Geode layer through the transition, patching what is running while the Geode migration is designed around the regions and serialization actually in use.
What this delivers
Continuity of support through the exit, with the Geode migration scoped against live grid behaviour rather than a licensing date.
