What actually stops on 31 October 2025
- Patch releases for 9.15 from Broadcom. 9.15.16 was the last.
- Broadcom technical support for 9.15 under a GemFire subscription.
- General support for any 9.x line. GemFire 9.10 left general support on 31 December 2024, and Broadcom's lifecycle table lists no 9.x line still supported.
What actually breaks in the upgrade
GemFire 10 isolates deployed JARs
GemFire 10 deploys JAR files into their own classloaders, isolated from the rest of the system and from each other. GemFire 9 used chained classloading by default. Functions and listeners that relied on shared classes need testing, or the --disable-classloader-isolation flag at start-up.
Session caching modules changed
GemFire 10 removed support for Tomcat 7 and 8 and for tc Server in its session caching modules. Applications that cache HTTP sessions in GemFire on those containers have a second upgrade to plan.
Land on a line with runway
GemFire 10.0 also left general support, on 30 April 2026, and 10.1 ends on 28 February 2027. A move from 9.15 should target 10.2 or 10.3.
Your options, costed honestly
Including the ones that do not involve buying anything from us.
| Option | What it is | Effort | Cost | Our view |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Upgrade to GemFire 10.2 or 10.3 | Classloader isolation, updated session modules, current fixes. | Weeks to quarters | Engineering time plus subscription | The Broadcom path, with support into 2028 or 2029. |
| Move to Apache Geode | The open source project GemFire was built from. | Quarters | Migration | The exit route when the Broadcom subscription is the reason to move. |
| OSSeva CVE coverage on 9.15 | Security fixes for 9.15 while the next step is chosen. | Days | Subscription | Keeps the grid covered without a rushed migration of live state. |
| Stay unpatched | No Broadcom patches since July 2025. | None | Zero now | Data grids often hold session tokens and financial records. |

GemFire / Geode extended supportWhat your auditor will say
The data store is a system component in its own right. An unsupported version with no patch source is a finding; a documented third-party patch stream is the usual remediation.
For EU financial entities, the ICT risk and third-party provisions apply when a critical service depends on software with no support arrangement in place.
